UMNO Online - Installation of CCTV at 25 Local 496 Ready In November
KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 - A total of 496 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed counter in 25 local authority (LA) across the country this year at a cost of RM81 million, said Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister counter Datuk Halimah Sadique.
"Until last month, a total of 1,639 CCTV has been installed and maintained by local authorities in partnership with ministries around the country," he said replying to Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (BN-Keningau) at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Halimah said the ministry, local authorities and the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) will continue to work together in identifying more hot spots to install CCTVs from time to time in order to reduce crime and improve public safety.
"There are several criteria to be considered before police decide whether the area should be installed CCTV, among others, counter the rate of property crime, population density by land area and the role of local authorities," he said.
